What is a Dairy Herd Share Program?
Indiana law prohibits the direct sale of unpasteurized milk to the consumer, the only legal way to obtain raw milk is to own the cow. Cow sharing is a system that provides access to fresh raw milk for people who cannot care for a cow themselves. Purchasing a share entitles you to a percentage of what the herd produces. Shareholders are legitimate owners of the herd.
Your share will entitle you to the freshest milk possible. From grass to the glass you won’t find fresher milk. This milk not only tastes good, but is good for you. The milk is free of antibiotics. Nothing has been added or taken from it. Plus you get the added benefit of knowing where your milk is coming from.
How Do I Purchase a Share?
You can become an owner in the Fagan Family Farm herd of dairy cows by purchasing one or more cow shares, sign our contract, and pay our monthly boarding service fee to feed, milk and take care of your cow. We are selling the services not the milk.
Where and When Do I Pick-up My Milk?
We will bottle your milk in new plastic jugs for you to pick-up from our farm. You have the option of picking up your milk once a week, once a month or every other week. You will need to schedule a time with the Fagan Family to pick up your milk.
How Much Does It Cost?
1/2 Gallon per Week
- $25 to buy the share (a one time fee)
- $14 monthly boarding fee
1 Gallon per Week
- $50 to buy the share (a one time fee)
- $28 monthly boarding fee
The monthly boarding fee is due the first of each month. If you would like more than one gallon a week, then you would need to purchase additional herd shares and pay the combined monthly boarding fees.
