Grandma Tucky's Chocolate Pie

There are pies and then there is Grandma Tucky’s Chocolate Pie.

This simple and delicious chocolate pie brings our family sweet memories of my husband’s grandma. She was a little lady with a big name (Gustava Vandelle) and a big heart. Matt always referred to her as Grandma Tucky (and he still does!) because during his childhood, she lived in Kentucky.

Grandma Tucky was a fantastic cook and I’m blessed to have a few of her recipes. Her chocolate pie is a good ol’ basic, easy-to-make recipe.

But before you make this pie, there is one thing you should know!! Our farm-fresh milk makes the pie creamier, richer and gives it the right texture that it needs. You’ve got to use whole milk for this recipe and whole milk with the cream makes it even better.

Grandma Tucky’s Chocolate Pie

1 whole pie crust, baked and cooled

3/4 cup sugar

2 Tb. cocoa

dash of salt

2 heaped Tb cornstarch

3 egg yolks, beaten

2 1/2 cups farm fresh milk

2 Tb butter

1 tsp vanilla

Start by putting sugar, cocoa, salt, and cornstarch in a saucepan and stir gently with your whisk to break up any clumps. Add the beaten egg yolks, milk, and butter. Cook on medium heat, until thick. Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Pour into a baked pie shell and let cool in the refrigerator, uncovered.

This chocolate filling makes good chocolate pudding too! So now you have a chocolate pie and a chocolate pudding recipe. 😊
